Chas is looking for his forever home! Chas is a Doberman Shepherd mix who we estimate to be just over a year old. This sweet guy has had a pretty rough start with little guidance and socialization from his first home after being adopted from a shelter as a young puppy. We aren’t exactly sure what happened to Chas in his first 10 months or so but he is a very timid & fearful boy who isn’t quite sure of himself in most situations. Chas was surrendered to a shelter at 10 months old – he did not do well in a shelter-environment and completely shut down and would lay curled up in the back of his kennel and not move/respond. Our friends at Refurbished Pets met Chas at the shelter and decided to put him into one of their foster homes where he seemed to really come out of his shell. He was transferred into their prison program in the hopes that would help to socialize him a bit further but soon found out that it was too overwhelming for him. Chas came to the barn and right into a foster home where he quickly bonded with his foster Mom who he is completely comfortable with.
Chas will need a special home, preferably with a patient family who understands his need for stability and some time to warm up to new people, experiences & environments. He is a very high-energy dog and will require an adopter who is willing to exercise him appropriately, is understanding of his fears and will help to build his confidence. Chas is potty & kennel trained, knows a few basic commands, is a professional at playing fetch, LOVES kids, is okay with other dogs his size but can be a bit pushy at times and would require some training & guidance on what is appropriate with any potential dog-siblings. Chas loves to chase cats – he has shown no signs of aggression towards the dog-savvy cat in his foster home but would need to be supervised if adopted into a home with cats. Once you have earned Chas’ trust, he is a giant love-bug!
