Meet Butters! This big boy is a 3 year old red Doberman.

Butters was rescued from severe neglect. He weighed 40 lbs (on a frame that now comfortably holds 85 lbs) and had lost much of his fur due to extreme malnourishment. He had pressure sores on his hips indicating he was kept in starvation for years, with nowhere soft to sleep.

Butters is in excellent health now, ready for a home to call his own! Like most Dobermans, he has plenty of energy. He will need a fenced yard and an owner that is willing to provide him with mental activity and positive training. He is working on learning manners and is progressing well. He is house-trained and is quiet and well behaved in a crate. Butters is extremely sweet with people. He likes to be right next to his humans and nudges gently with his nose to be sure they’re close by.

Currently he is living with two cats and is learning to leave them alone, but he likes to chase/tease them. Therefore he would do best with no cats or a dog savvy cat that doesn’t run from him. He is polite when greeting new dogs, but needs to live as an only dog as he doesn’t like to share his toys. He is friendly with people around food and toys.

Butters is being fostered with two young children and he is very good tempered and tolerant of them. However he is large, clumsy, and mouthy when he plays, so for a permanent home will do best with older kids. Could his furever home be with you?
